If, when you come to New York and you want to see a show, unless it is a show that you must absolutely see, don't buy the tickets until you get here. The theatre organisation in New York run a great service where you can buy tickets for that night's shows at an extreme discount. It is called "TKTS".
Rule No17: There are three TKTS booths around New York. One in Times Square (don't go to this one unless you want to spend hours in line - this is the one that all tourists go to), near pier 11 downtown at the South Street Seaport (this one usually has a small line - it's the one Bryan and I go to) and another one in Brooklyn (this one is not open on Sunday's). In their window they have a list of all the shows that they are offering discount tickets for.
Bryan and I went to our second show last night (we got the tickets 50% off) an off Broadway production that was about aliens crashing on earth and requiring our musical energy to charge up their spaceship so they could get home to the planet "Voca". The storyline sounds pretty sus I agree.......but it was great fun. It involved 8 people singing all the songs and music that we all know and love. They made all the sounds of the musical instruments and beats with their voices (this is known as acapella singing and is extremely popular here in the US). I had a smile on my face from the very beginning. Plus they interacted with the audience which made it even more personable.
So next time your in New York and want to see a show make sure you check out TKTS - you could save yourself some money that you could spend on shoes, handbags, clothes, restaurants, clubbing, other shows, going to museums, books, more clothes, perfume, more shoes, more handbags......you get the idea! :)
